10th May was the last day of Mental Health awareness week and also saw DadSpace play against Maidstone United Supporters team in our third charity football match. We play for fun, but there is no doubt that we played this game with purpose.
Our mission is to raise awareness of Mental Health and provide "Brotherly Support Between Fathers". The passion for our cause shone throughout this match.
Stuart Ansell - Coach says "The DadSpace footballing journey picks up pace!"
28 players. 3 generations of coaches. Grandfathers, Fathers and Sons. All came together on a barmy Friday night at the Gallagher. IMUSC started fast whilst the DadSpace squad got to grips with new team mates and creating on field chemistry.
After 20 minutes DadSpace slowly started to play some exciting and flowing liquid football. We didn’t look back from there. Even though, on 3 occasions during the game we made full team wholesale substitutions this didn’t effect our flow, our bravery, our determination. there was Brotherly Support Between Passes! Final score was 4-4. We are not far off the mark on our DadSpace footballing journey, I’m sure our first win is just round the corner!
In Memory of Angela Rosemeyer
Last year a generous donor sponsored the purchase of our DadSpace football kit and sadly he recently lost his wife, Angela Rosemeyer. This game was dedicated in her memory and we wear this kit with pride.
Thank you Simon Rosemeyer and thank you NexGen Cyber for your continued support of DadSpace.
Thank you!
Huge thank you to all the friends and family who came along to support the game, also to Maidstone United Supporters team for being such great sports. Thank you to all of the staff at the Gallagher Stadium for supporting DadSpace events and sharing our commitment to improving Mental Health through sport and fitness. Thank you to Faye Neale for organising the the raffle! Between that and entry ticket we raised over £700! All funds raised help us to deliver even more sessions and events for local men and their families.
Most importantly, this event got 1000s of people talking about Mental Health!
A few words from our players below
"I would like to express my sincere appreciation for receiving this award, DadSpace is my second family. I owe so much to this organisation. In my darkest days, I needed somewhere I could vent my demons. From my first visit I did not feel alone at all, I was made to feel welcome and not pressured into anything. Just that safe space I craved.
Thank you Denver and Mike for the support I have received, it's appreciated more than you could ever know.
The football for me has been amazing, feeling part of a team and most of all, a brotherhood.
Thank you DadSpace. Long may you grow to help people like me. Denver be proud."
Man of the Match - Clarky
"Last night was incredible, wasn’t it? I just wanted to take a moment to express how proud I am of each and every one of you. Seriously, everyone brought so much energy to the field, and seeing the team represent DadSpace with such positivity is quite special. Thank you for not just being teammates, but for embracing what DadSpace stands for - Brotherly Support Between Fathers. Can’t wait for the next game!" Denver King - Director
"From the first time discussing the idea of DadSpace with Denver I thought he was onto something. Then after attending the very first meet you could feel it was more than just a good idea, it is really needed and really valuable, within 30 min I saw men i’d know for 30 yrs open up more than you would believe.
The non judgemental environment created by the team at Dadspace is great and the power of knowing you are not alone and that its ok to ask for support is not only beneficial to people’s personal mental health but also has a positive impact of those around them.
Evenings like tonight are a chance to celebrate Dadspace and spread the word, and it’s great to be a part of it. I was lucky enough to play alongside my son Euan (left) and Nephew Joe (middle) who has just become a father himself. A memory to cherish!
Cheers and keep up the great work!" Ben
