On October 10th 2023, World Mental Health Day, the Kent and Medway Suicide Prevention Team proudly announce eleven projects across Kent that are dedicated to preventing suicide, reducing self-harm, and ultimately, saving lives.
These initiatives, ranging from community support groups to specialised parenting programs, have received funding ranging from £500 to £15,000. This funding is set to make a significant impact in providing essential mental health support within their communities.
These Kent and Medway Better Mental Health and Wellbeing Community Funded projects exemplify the dedication and hard work being put into improving mental health across the region. DadSpace's success, announced on World Mental Health Day, aligns perfectly with this year's theme that 'Mental health is a universal human right'.
KCC has seen the transformative power of grants in the past, and are confident that these funds will be no exception. Especially in the midst of challenges posed by COVID-19 and rising cost of living crisis, these projects offer a beacon of hope and a platform for individuals to share their struggles. Smaller, grassroots initiatives like DadSpace are vital in providing tailored support based on individual circumstances and contribute immensely to building resilient, supportive communities.
Director and Found of DadSpace, Denver King, said: “Receiving the KCC grant is a huge help. These funds will allow us to expand our reach across Kent, opening three new locations in Ashford, as well as Broadstairs and Canterbury. Our vision is to provide safe spaces for dads to talk, listen and share their experiences of fatherhood across the country. We believe DadSpace should be accessible to all dads and hope to see one in every town or city. Consistency is key, we aim to offer a variety of DadSpace meet-ups regularly, so dads know they always have a place to go.”
Thank you to everyone at KCC who nominated and voted for our project and for the fathers and families who attend our events. We look forward to working with KCC and supporting many more fathers, allowing their mental health and families to flourish throughout 2024!
