The holiday season is often portrayed as the happiest time of year. However, for many it can be quite the opposite. This is particularly true for those separated from family or coping with the loss of a loved one.
What does it take to make you “Happy” during the festive season?
At our last events, we discussed what the festive season means to us, especially as fathers. It's undeniable that the joy and satisfaction we get from witnessing our families' happiness and shared moments of joy are among the most precious gifts we could ever receive ourselves.
However, between these cherished moments, there's an undercurrent of stress and pressure that can often accompany the holiday season.
The societal pressure to meet or even surpass expectations can lead to stress and overspending. The age-old phrase of "keeping up with the Joneses" remains relevant today. Fuelled further by the portrayal of perfect lives on social media, where only the best moments are showcased, leaving out the struggles and real challenges we all face in life.
The pursuit of perfection can sometimes lead to unspoken tensions and an overwhelming sense of disappointment when reality doesn't align with the picture-perfect image we've envisioned.
Amidst these challenges, it's crucial to remember that you’re not alone, especially during the holiday season. When the going gets tough, taking a moment to express gratitude for the presence of loved ones and the small blessings in our lives can be immensely comforting.
Embrace the present moment and revel in the company of those who matter most to you. Consider making plans for more quality time together in the upcoming year. Perhaps setting personal challenges or goals could be a rewarding endeavour and give focus for the year ahead. Whatever happens, give it your best shot, and here at DadSpace, we eagerly await to hear about your experiences, challenges and successes in the coming year!
