Friday Fire Pit Success

Friday 14th of July was a perfect example of DadSpace trying something new and smashing it.

This was our first “late night” event. Everyone said how great it was to be in the woods all evening in such a relaxed and calming atmosphere. Although it was raining most of the early evening, Reuthe’s Lost Gardens of Sevenoaks had us covered and the fire pit kept us warm all evening.

Our usual meet-ups are exceptional, but this was that little bit of something extra that we all need every now and then. An opportunity to kick back, relax and really get to know each other, and you still have the rest of your weekend for family time… It was perfect.

This session was a deep and meaningful one as we all discussed the impact our physical health can play on us and our families. They say there is a 50/50 chance of experiencing cancer. Of the visitors last night over 3/4 of us had experienced the effects of it either directly or indirectly.

This was a moving moment for all of us, as there was comfort in knowing others had made it though these tough times and fighting, however hard it may feel at the time can have a positive outcome.

The biggest take away from one of our members last night was that he never takes a day for granted and will always try to fit in “one more experience” that day. Wether that be visiting a friend who invited him out for a drink, making his kids favourite dinner instead of what he had planned or even an impromptu visit to the beach to watch the sunset in the distance.

This is a great mantra for when you have had a bad day and feel like you just don’t want to do anything. It’s not too late to something that you/your family loves, that smile can turn your whole day around.

Thank you to everyone who attended, and our host Simon of Reuthe's Lost Gardens of Sevenoaks for the amazing venue.

We look forward to welcoming everyone again soon at our Family Garden Party at the same place on 29th July!
